FFMS- FRANCISCO MANUEL DOS SANTOS FOUNDATION, MAIN LECTURE HALL IN LISBON
A stage, a chess board, a chess piece, the queen moving throughout the space. This is the basis of the concept we developed for the event “A Mulher Hoje” (Women Today) which marked the 10th anniversary of the Francisco Manuel dos Santos Foundation (FFMS) in Lisbon.
A Mulher Hoje conference was opened by Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, President of the Portuguese Republic. We gathered more than 1600 people in the main lecture hall who throughout the day witnessed the dissemination of the results of the largest study conducted in Portugal on the characterization and role of the Portuguese female population.
The conference was presented and moderated by journalist José Alberto Carvalho.
Laura Sagnier presented the results of the largest FFMS-funded study ever done in Portugal on women. The conference A Mulher Hoje brought to Lisbon women who differ in the international scene in the most diverse areas. Samantha Power, US Ambassador to the UN during the Barack Obama Administration, Freida Pinto, a recognized Hollywood actress who works with NGOs in India to defend women’s rights, Ghida Fakry, a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, are some of the women who testified about the challenges of women today. Teresa Fragoso, Anália Torres and Ana Nunes de Almeida also joined the panel of speakers.
The event could be followed live through the Foundation’s website and was covered by newspapers, radios and television channels with particular emphasis on TVI, which was the official station of the event.
“Respect”, “Pride”, “Power”, “Union”, “Debate” and “Opportunities” were the triggers printed on pins that were available to the participants, and which translated the topics discussed on stage.
